Douglas County’s eluding cops law prohibits drivers from trying to dodge police. CRS 42-4-1413 defines eluding or attempting to elude law enforcement throughout Colorado. You commit this traffic offense in Castle Rock, Castle Pines, or Lone Tree if:

  • police in a marked vehicle signal you to pull over,
  • AND you intentionally try to ditch them by speeding, turning your lights off, or any other method meant to evade

This applies to avoiding police, a sheriff, or Colorado state patrol. It is important to note, law enforcement must have produced a visual or audible signal from their marked car for eluding charges to result.
